Event Reports  are rather sparse in this issue, most competitions being an anti-climax after the heights of winning the national inter-club competition.

Aire hosted the YHOA School Championships at the 'new to orienteers' area of
Bramham Westwood (16 May), attracting over 300 competitors on a superbly sunny, warm morning.  A few moans and one or two problems from the long walk across the park, though surprisingly less was heard about the undergrowth which must have been higher than when the mapping began in February.  Interesting courses by Mike Cox: Pam and Graham Stuart made the most of the presentation of YHOA prizes in front of the big house. Thankyou to Jeff Harris of Ebor for Controlling
Aire winners were Daniel Calvert (year 3), Richard Jones (year8) and Alistair Everett (year 10).  Sam Avis, Cerys Jones and Lowri Jones also won awards.
Some juniors chose to 'run up' and so out of class for the schools event.

The club was also well represented at the
Holme Fell National Event,Coniston 23 May, one of Lakeland's best areas.  Florence Haines, George Stevens and Ben Stevens all won their classes.  Top six placings were also achieved by Chloe and Hector Haines, Victoria Stevens, Joe Mercer, Ruth Jones, Shirley Wood, Peter Haines and Tony Thornley.

Fewer managed the journey to Blair Atholl for the
Scottish Championships the following weekend (probably a combination of distance, holiday weekend and slightly higher fees than usual) but most of those members who competed had good runs, Florence and George winning yet again and the
Stevens family just about out of sight in taking the M/W48- relay prize.
Robert Ker, Sue Stevens and Tony Thornley stormed into 2nd place in a competitive 165+ relay.

Back to the old stamping ground of
Harden Moor for Aire's event on 13 June, now with renewed quarrying and seemingly deeper heather.  The detailed bits remain as tricky as ever and Bernie Foster adjusted the course lengths to allow for the tough, deep heather though that still left most finishing more exhausted over a shorter distance than usual.  Ric and Lucy Fox led the organisation with quiet aplomb and arranged excellent weather conditions.

Wednesday evening informal events in Airedale and Wharfedale have attracted a steady following through May and June. These enable us to use smaller, and otherwise unconsidered areas and offer planning experience.
And Shirley Wood has resumed the Ilkley based Wednesday afternoon primary school events.  Perhaps football on TV kept the numbers down to 50+ on the first Wednesday at Middleton Woods.
