JK 2004  Lake District

This year's Jan Kjellstrom event was hosted by the North West Orienteering Association with help from East Midlands OA on the Graythwaite Estate in the Lake District.
Superb terrain, fine weather and effective organisation made it perhaps the best event of its kind in recent years.  Aire was well represented among the 3400+ competitors and fielded 18 teams in the relays on Easter Monday.

Aire had two class winners in Rob Patterson (M20L) and Ruth Ker (W35S) and other outstanding senior performances were by Ruth Jones (3rd W45L), Peter Haines (3rd M50L), David Cheesewright (6th M40L), Rose Burden (7th W20E) and Neil Conway  (16th M21E).

The best junior achievements over the two days  were

George Stevens (2nd M14A), Robert Kelly (4th M12A),  Chloe Haines (4th W14A)
Victoria Stevens (5th W16A), Jack Wood 7th (M16A),  Hector Haines (8th M16A)
and Ben Stevens (9th M18L).

In M10B, Davy Ker came 3rd in a  surprisingly strong field.  Daniel Calvert, Sam Wood, Joe Woodley ,Adam Penny and Beth Woodley (W10B)also acquitted themselves well in what for most would have been a first really big competition.
Richard Jones was 2nd in M14B.   In all 26 Aire juniors appeared in the results.

The real winners of the weekend were the competitors who were provided with high quality terrain, maps, facilities and weather.
