It was a glorious Indian-Summer day and the atmosphere was terrific with 47 thousand runners raring to go. I watched from the embankment above the start as the gun went and thousands of competitors streamed away down the motorway. I kept my eyes on Dave as he started near the front but he soon merged with the masses and it brought tears to my eyes as the first Oggy-Oggy-Oggy chant went up and thousands joined in, like an army of warriors setting off to do battle with their own personal goals. Still not believing that I was actually going to do this I clambered down the embankment and plunged into the throng. I was immediately caught up in the excitement and the adreneline started to flow.
